You've found your perfect home and settles into your new neighborhood, so what's next? For many, it's time to add a splash of personality and style with a spot of decorating.

Choosing the right on-trend colours, best-suited furniture and room layouts can be overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be as there’s an app out there to suit your every need, whether you’re a self-confessed design guru, DIY-dodger or doing this for the first time.

To help you create the home of your dreams without the stress, we’ve selected six apps with tools from colour swatch technology to virtual consultation designed to inspire you. Some also have 3D augmented technology so you can visualise objects in a room setting before committing to a purchase.

All five apps are free to download from the App Store for iOS and Android phones. Happy decorating!

Houzz

Unsure where to start? Try the Houzz App. Houzz has a database of over 14 million images of home interiors and exteriors to provide inspiration. Users can also share photos with friends and family to gather opinions as well as connect with over 1.5 million home improvement professionals via the app’s social sharing element.

Dulux Visualiser

Keen to experiment with your wall colour? Using augmented reality technology, the Dulux Visualizer App allows you to see different paint colours on your wall risk-free. You can even match a colour from your existing furnishings and the app will suggest co-ordinating paint colours. Better yet, once you decide on a shade, place an order direct to your door straight from the app.

IKEA Place

To see what furniture would look like in your home, IKEA’s Place app lets you virtually ‘place’ IKEA products into any room. The app includes 3D models of its products from sofas and armchairs to footstalls and coffee tables. You can also consult your friends and family by sharing images of your room set up including the furniture items you like on social apps from WhatsApp to Instagram.

WikiHow

You’ve decided on your colour scheme, furnishings and where to put everything, but may have some questions when it comes to DIY. Luckily, the WikiHow App has thousands of how-to guides to prepare you for the simplest and even trickiest jobs. You can search through categories to find what you’re looking for as well as bookmark guides to save for later.

iHandy Level

Before you take on any DIY tasks from hanging pictures to building furniture, make sure you have the iHandy Level App downloaded onto your smartphone, as great interior design all comes down to the small details. Saving you from having to go out and buy a leveller and tape measure, the app helps you to level items, markings and fixtures as well as angle measurements, check the verticality of a wall and the alignment of furniture.
